Retired Teacher Duped in Telegram Investment Scheme

Ajmer: A former teacher, Digvijay Singh Rathore, residing in Mayo Link Road, has become the latest victim of a sophisticated cyber fraud racket operating through the messaging platform Telegram.

Rathore, while browsing Telegram, encountered an advertisement promising lucrative returns on investments. Lured by the prospect of significant profits, he clicked on the advertisement, which led to a conversation on WhatsApp with the fraudsters.

The cybercriminals presented various investment plans, painting a picture of substantial gains. Trusting their assurances, Rathore proceeded to invest a total of Rs 10,000 through QR codes provided by the scammers. This initial investment was made in installments: two payments of Rs 1,000 each and four payments of Rs 2,000.

? Did You Know? Online investment scams often use social media platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp to lure victims with promises of unrealistic returns.

When Rathore attempted to withdraw his money, the fraudsters informed him that an additional deposit of Rs 23,518 was required to process the withdrawal. Unsuspectingly, he transferred this amount as well. However, his funds remained inaccessible.

The scammers then escalated their demands, claiming the previous deposit was made to the wrong account and that a fresh deposit of Rs 23,520 was necessary to get his entire money back. This continuous cycle of demands for more money, without any returns, finally made Rathore realize he had been defrauded.

He has since lodged a formal complaint with the cybercrime police station. Authorities have registered a case and have begun a thorough investigation into the matter.
