Before handing over the memorandum, party members staged a sit-in demonstration, raising slogans against the perceived irregularities. The protest highlighted growing concerns about the fairness of the electoral process in the region.
Serious Allegations Leveled Against Administration
PCC Vice President Naseem Akhtar did not mince words, accusing the administration of working as "agents of the BJP" and deliberately attempting to manipulate the election process. He pointed to a specific instance in Ward 16, questioning how an astonishing 50 names were suddenly added to the voter list at a single address.
Akhtar demanded an immediate investigation into these additions and the prompt removal of any fraudulent names. He further alleged that legitimate voters associated with the Congress party are being systematically removed from the lists, while "fake" names linked to the BJP are being added at the ruling party's behest.
Candidates and Former Councillors Share Grievances
The protest also brought forward individual cases illustrating the alleged anomalies. Former Councillor Sushila Sen from Ward 7 shared her dismay, stating that despite being a resident of the ward for generations and having served two terms as a councillor, her entire family's names have been inexplicably removed from the voter list. She attributed this to political animosity.
Shweta Parashar, a Congress contender from Ward 9, revealed her name has also been removed from the voter list. This comes at a critical time, as she is scheduled to file her nomination papers on Monday, raising questions about her eligibility.
Warning of Escalation to State Authorities
Naseem Akhtar issued a stern warning, stating that if these issues are not addressed and the voter lists are not rectified promptly, the Congress will escalate the matter. They plan to lodge a formal complaint with the District Collector and, through the state leadership, take the grievances to the State Election Commission.
A significant number of Congress functionaries and workers joined the protest. Among those present were former Minister of State for Education Naseem Akhtar Insaf, senior Congress leader Haji Insaf Ali, former Municipal Chairman Damodar Sharma, Congress leader Babulal Dagdi, City Congress President Pramod Parashar, Bejnath Parashar, Jagdish Kurdia, Omprakash Tigaya, Chandmal Uday, Tikam Sharma, Sharad Vaishnav, Prem Prakash Bakolia, Gopal Tilonia, Mausam Sharma, Sanjay Dagdi, Bhagchand Dagdi, Prithviraj Uday, Amarchand Sen, Mahesh Nayak, Jaikumar Valmiki, and Rohan Khan.
