Pushkar Congress Demands Fair Voter Rolls, Seeks Ramdevra Mela Tax Relief

During their meeting with the officials, the Congress leaders presented two distinct sets of demands. These focused on ensuring transparency in the upcoming municipal elections and providing relief to pilgrims visiting the popular Ramdevra Mela.

Demands for Transparent Voter Rolls

One of the primary issues raised in the memorandum pertained to the integrity of the voter list for the Nagar Parishad elections. The Congress committee reported receiving complaints about alleged pressure on Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to add fake, ineligible, or non-resident individuals to the voter rolls.

Leaders expressed apprehension that such practices could compromise the purity of the voter list and negatively impact the entire electoral process. They urged the authorities to conduct impartial physical verifications of all new voter applications, strictly based on residence and eligibility, before any names are added.

Seeking Relief for Ramdevra Devotees

In a separate memorandum, the delegation appealed for an exemption from passenger tax (yatri kar) and parking fees for pilgrims attending the Ramdevra Mela. This exemption was specifically requested for the month of Bhadrapad.

The committee underscored that most devotees traveling to the Ramdevra Mela belong to economically disadvantaged and middle-class backgrounds. Waiving these charges would offer significant financial relief to the pilgrims, making their spiritual journey more accessible.
