Ajmer Gears Up for Local Body Elections: Voting on Sept 9 & 11, Mayor to be Chosen on Sept 21

Two-Phase Voting Process

The first phase of voting is slated for September 9th, covering six urban local bodies within the district. Following this, on September 11th, voters in three more urban bodies will cast their ballots. The collective results for these initial polling days are expected to be announced on September 14th.

Choosing the City's Leaders

The election for the key positions of Mayor, Municipal Council Chairperson, and Municipality Chairperson is scheduled for September 21st. This will be followed by the election of Deputy Mayors and Vice Chairpersons on September 22nd. While the public will directly elect the ward councillors, the selection of Mayors and other top positions will be decided through voting among these elected councillors.

Over 4 Lakh Voters to Decide Ajmer's Fate

Ajmer city is gearing up to elect its new government, with over 4 lakh voters eligible to participate. The major political players, BJP and Congress, are yet to announce their candidates for the councillor positions. Notably, the position of Mayor for the Ajmer Municipal Corporation is reserved for an unreserved woman candidate this time.

Code of Conduct in Effect

The election process mandates the enforcement of a strict code of conduct until its completion. During this period, any new development projects in urban areas cannot be announced, and new work orders will not be issued. Existing projects will continue, but no new initiatives can be commenced.

Ward-wise Voter Distribution

The Ajmer Municipal Corporation comprises 80 wards, with a total of 4,33,638 voters. This includes 2,15,387 male voters and 2,18,236 female voters, along with 15 transgender voters. Ward number three has the highest concentration of voters with 10,448, while ward number twelve has the lowest at 2,654. The voter list is still being updated, and changes are possible until the election day.
