“'My biopic is in the works':Lalit Modi says, 'Ranveer Singh wanted to play my role, met me in London'”
Businessman and former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has revealed that a film based on his life is currently in development, with work underway on the script. He also shared that actor Ranveer Singh had once expressed keen interest in portraying him on screen. Speaking to news agency ANI, Modi said that his entire team is involved in the project, although the storyline is still being finalised. When asked who he would like to see play his character, Modi named Ranveer Singh. “Ranveer Singh wanted to play my role. He approached me himself. I would love for him to do it, but he has now become such a huge star that I don’t know whether he will have the time,” Modi said. Recalling their first meeting, Lalit Modi revealed that the two met around two years ago in London. “Someone had spoken to him about the idea. I didn’t know Ranveer personally. I knew Deepika well, but I had never met Ranveer before. Then one day I received a call saying that Ranveer wanted to meet me. He came to London specifically for that meeting,” Modi shared. According to Modi, Ranveer told him during the meeting that if he ever had the opportunity to play one role in his career, he would love to portray Lalit Modi as the IPL Commissioner. “This is where the idea really began,” Modi said. “I think Ranveer is an exceptional actor and he has had a remarkable career. Whether he still wants to play the role or not, I don’t know, but we discussed it in this very house two years ago and planned to take it forward.” He further clarified that the film will not solely focus on his personal journey, but will also explore the creation of the Indian Premier League and its rise to becoming the world’s biggest cricket tournament. Modi added that the project is envisioned as a large-scale production, with considerable effort currently going into developing the script and overall narrative.
