Elderly Pilgrim Loses ₹7 Lakh Gold in Daring Pushkar Bus Theft

Pushkar, a renowned pilgrimage town, has reported a distressing incident where an elderly woman visiting for darshan and a holy dip lost gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹7 lakh. The theft reportedly took place on Wednesday afternoon as she was boarding a bus headed for Ajmer.

The incident occurred near the Marwar Bus Stand, close to the State Hospital and a police outpost, adding to concerns about security in the busy area. Bholuram, the victim's son, has filed a written complaint with the Pushkar Police, urging immediate action.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to the complaint, Kali Devi, a resident of Shokaliya village in the Sarwar region, arrived in Pushkar on July 29 with other women from her village. After completing her rituals at the revered Pushkar Sarovar, she proceeded to board the Ajmer-bound bus between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM on Wednesday.

Her son, Bholuram, detailed how a suspicious woman was allegedly seen trailing his mother, seemingly observing her movements and jewellery. Once on the bus, this individual reportedly sat unusually close to Kali Devi.

The alleged thief then purportedly feigned a fall, embracing Kali Devi in the process. The elderly woman, unaware of the sinister act unfolding, did not suspect anything amiss at the time. The suspect quickly disembarked from the bus a short distance later.

Discovery and Police Investigation

It was only when the bus conductor requested fare that Kali Devi checked her belongings. To her shock, five gold ornaments, weighing around four tolas and collectively estimated at ₹7 lakh, were missing.

She immediately informed her son, Bholuram, about the theft. The family suspects the thief exploited the crowded bus and the rush of boarding passengers to cut or snatch the jewellery, though the actual circumstances will only be clear after the police investigation.

Pushkar Police have launched an investigation based on Bholuram's complaint. Authorities are now meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the Marwar Bus Stand, State Hospital, and surrounding areas to identify the suspect and piece together the exact sequence of events.
