AAP Rajasthan Charts Course for 2026 Urban Local Body Elections

Jaipur, Rajasthan — The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Rajasthan today rolled out its manifesto for the upcoming 2026 urban local body elections. The party is making a significant push, primarily promising a corruption-free administration and a pollution-free urban environment across the state.

The manifesto lays out a clear vision for municipal corporations, councils, and local bodies. It emphasizes delivering clean air, safe drinking water, and an encroachment-free civic system to residents.

Local Governance Under Scrutiny, AAP Promises Change

Dheeraj Tokas, AAP Rajasthan In-charge, highlighted the direct impact of local body elections on people's daily lives. He pointed out that local governments, not just in Rajasthan but across the country, often fail to provide essential services due to widespread corruption.

Basic amenities like education, urban planning, health, sanitation, roads, public transport, and drinking water are directly linked to the functioning of these bodies. Tokas stated that AAP's manifesto prioritizes an effective and accountable local system.

Ghanendra Bhardwaj, the party's Co-in-charge, weighed in on the current state of urban planning. He noted that despite adopting concepts from developed nations, India's local bodies have largely fallen short.

Cities grapple with poor, short-sighted planning, often leading to disruptive demolition drives for road widening. Encroachment and blatant disregard for building regulations are rampant. This unchecked growth, Bhardwaj added, is turning cities into concrete jungles and pollution-choked gas chambers. AAP aims to tackle these issues head-on.

Education, Transparency, and Cleanliness at the Forefront

Devendra Shastri, AAP Rajasthan's Election In-charge, detailed the manifesto's core priorities: education, corruption-free administration, and sanitation. The party believes that the generation educated in today's schools will shape tomorrow's cities and society in Rajasthan.

For education under municipal bodies, the manifesto promises enhanced infrastructure, modern teaching methods, digital facilities, and a strong focus on skill development and career guidance. The goal is to establish a primary education system that fosters mentally capable, aware, and scientifically minded children.

Shastri also addressed the pervasive issue of corruption, which he identified as a major reason for the low efficiency of local bodies. He echoed AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal's belief that removing corruption automatically leads to better public services. If entrusted with the administration of any corporation, council, or municipality, AAP pledges to establish an ideal of corruption-free local governance.

Holistic Urban Development Plans

The manifesto outlines several other key initiatives. AAP plans to implement its popular 'Mohalla Clinic' scheme in any city where it gains administrative control. In sanitation, the party commits to using modern machinery and technology, alongside prioritizing the safety of sanitation workers.

For roads, footpaths, and public transport, the focus is on improving traffic flow, minimizing congestion, and making public transportation more convenient and accessible.

Addressing urban pollution, AAP's plan includes daily waste disposal and measures to reduce vehicular emissions. A phased approach to undergrounding open electrical wires is also part of the agenda, aiming for safer and cleaner urban landscapes.

The process for construction permits is set to become simpler, more effective, and transparent. All rules and guidelines, the manifesto states, will be designed keeping public convenience, city needs, and future planned development in mind.

AAP Positions Itself as a Third Alternative

Devendra Shastri emphasized that AAP Rajasthan is presenting itself as an alternative political platform against what he described as a
