Ajmer Embraces Electric Future with PM e-Bus Seva Launch
Ajmer is taking a significant stride towards sustainable urban transport with the rollout of the 'PM e-Bus Seva' scheme. This initiative, spearheaded by the Government of India, aims to revolutionize electric mobility in urban areas, promising cleaner air and reduced reliance on diesel fuel across the nation.
The core objective of the PM e-Bus Seva is to facilitate the operation of electric buses in cities through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This strategy is designed to curb pollution levels and lessen the country's dependence on fossil fuels, fostering an environmentally friendlier public transportation system.
Rajasthan's Green Transit Expansion
Across Rajasthan, the e-bus service is being implemented in several key cities. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Kota, Alwar, and Bhilwara are already part of this green transit expansion, with Ajmer now joining the list.
For Ajmer specifically, the plan is ambitious: a total of 100 e-buses are slated for operation. In this initial phase, the city has received five 9-meter long, air-conditioned electric buses. Each bus boasts a comfortable 26-seater capacity, ready to serve the local populace.
Advanced Features for Enhanced Passenger Experience
These new e-buses are equipped with a suite of modern features designed for passenger comfort and safety. Automatic gates streamline the boarding and alighting process, and for the first time, a wheelchair lift has been installed. This crucial addition ensures that differently-abled individuals and senior citizens can travel with ease and dignity.
Passenger safety remains a top priority. Every bus is fitted with CCTV cameras for continuous surveillance, along with a fire safety system and emergency buttons to address any unforeseen incidents promptly.
Infrastructure and Operations
To support this new fleet, a dedicated charging station and bus depot have been established at Nosar Ghati. This facility, developed at a cost of Rs. 15.00 crore, is vital for the smooth and efficient operation of the electric buses.
Fares for the e-bus service will be determined based on the distance traveled (kilometres). The responsibility for the operation and maintenance of these e-buses has been entrusted to CESL Mobility, a specialized firm.
Initial Routes for Ajmer's First Five E-Buses
The first five e-buses will operate on the following routes, enhancing connectivity across Ajmer and its surrounding areas:
- Ajmer Bus Stand to Pushkar Bus Stand via Hokra
- Gandhi Bhawan to Tantoti via Nasirabad
- Makadwali Chauraha to Srinagar via Badhlaya
- Varun Sagar to Dorai via Subhash Nagar
- Ajmer Nosar Ghati to Kishangarh via MDS University Tiraha
