In a remarkable medical intervention, doctors at MBS Hospital's Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Department in Kota successfully removed an open safety pin lodged dangerously between the throat and brain of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. The intricate procedure, performed on Tuesday, utilized an endoscope, offering a new lease on life for the young patient.

The safety pin, found to be open, had caused internal injury and a collection of blood, complicating its extraction. The medical team worked diligently, first anesthetizing the child, then carefully navigating the delicate area to remove the foreign object.

Emergency Admission and Challenging Extraction

Dr. Shemendra Kumar Meena, from the ENT Department at MBS Hospital, shared details of the case. The child was brought to the emergency room on July 21st in the afternoon. His parents reported that the pin had gone into his nose. Further examination revealed the pin had moved beyond the nose, lodging itself in the adenoid area, situated between the throat and the head.

Initial attempts to remove the pin via endoscopy in the emergency operation theatre were challenging. Dr. Meena explained that the open pin had caused internal injury and blood accumulation, obscuring visibility during the endoscopic procedure. Suction was used to clear the blood, allowing the doctors to locate the pin. Given its open state, extreme caution was exercised to prevent further injury during extraction. The child is now reportedly stable, eating, and drinking normally. Unit Incharge Dr. Rajkumar Jain, Dr. Mukesh Somwanshi, and Dr. Shilpa were also part of the medical team.

Family Recounts Frightening Incident

The child's father, a resident of Nainwa, recounted the terrifying incident. On the evening of July 20th, his son was playing at home when he got hold of his mother's safety pin and inserted it into his nose. By the time they realized what had happened, the pin had gone deep inside. They first rushed him to Bundi District Hospital, but the pin could not be removed there. Subsequently, they brought him to MBS Hospital in Kota, where the doctors performed the successful operation.

Doctor's Crucial Advice for Parents

Following the successful procedure, Dr. Meena issued an important advisory for parents. He urged them to keep small, pointed objects like safety pins, peas, peanuts, beads, wheat grains, rubber pieces, or chickpeas out of children's reach. Bhardwaj highlighted Gunjal's consistent efforts to champion the cause of farmers, youth, and the poor, ensuring their voices are heard and justice is sought on various issues.

"Hadoti boasts the strongest Congress presence across Rajasthan," Bhardwaj stated, reassuring workers that "in the times to come, those who deserve respect will undoubtedly receive it."

Former MLA Prahlad Gunjal painted a grim picture of the farmers' plight. He remarked that while farmers hope for the government's support when nature is uncooperative, it seems both are currently turning a blind eye. "The dreams of Hadoti's farmers are shattering," Gunjal lamented, describing how farmers anxiously watch the sky, their eyes shedding tears for their uncertain future.

Gunjal pointed out that millions of hectares have been sown with paddy, yet farmers are constantly pleading for water. Regarding the canal water situation, Prahlad Gunjal described the currently released water for paddy irrigation as "a drop in the ocean." He reiterated that Hadoti, particularly Kota-Baran, is the 'rice bowl' and needs adequate water. Gunjal demanded that the government immediately provide sufficient water for irrigation.

Gunjal also exposed what he termed an "open loot" of farmers concerning fertilizer. He claimed that a 1300 rupee bag of fertilizer is unavailable unless farmers purchase an "attachment," effectively costing them 2400 rupees. He highlighted the apparent paradox where those unable to buy a single bag without attachment can purchase as many as they want with it.

"Why is this monopoly running in the fertilizer business?" Gunjal questioned, promising to reveal the individuals and connections behind this alleged scam at the upcoming protest.

Kota, Rajasthan — A remarkable story of resilience and maternal dedication has emerged from Kota, the hub of competitive exam preparation. Gunjan Kumar, hailing from Sitamarhi, Bihar, arrived here with a dream of cracking the JEE, only to face a severe health setback. Despite battling pneumothorax – a collapsed lung – and significant vision impairment, Gunjan has successfully secured admission into the Computer Science branch at IIT Delhi.

His journey saw him spend two crucial years in Kota. However, just before the JEE examination, his health deteriorated, confining him to bed rest for three months. It was during this challenging period that his mother, Gunja, stepped up in an extraordinary way.

A Mother's Dedication: Attending Online Lectures and Taking Notes

Gunja, a B.Ed graduate who chose to be a homemaker, ensured her son's studies weren't derailed. She diligently attended Gunjan's online lectures, making notes and then sharing them with him. She essentially went back to studying after years, all to support her son's academic pursuits.

Her efforts paid off handsomely. Gunjan secured an impressive rank in JEE Advanced: PwD Category OBC Rank 50 and a Common Rank of 120. His father, Rajnarayan Prasad, serves as an engineer in the Border Road Organization, and his younger brother is also currently preparing for JEE in Kota.

Overcoming Physical Challenges

Gunjan’s weak eyesight, with only 70% vision and requiring glasses with a power of 9.5, added another layer of difficulty. Yet, he scored a commendable 91.8 percentile in JEE Main.

Reflecting on his journey, Gunjan shared, “Circumstances are not always in our support. Exams are not just about studies, but also about courage. Despite his vision challenges, Gunjan was resolute about preparing for JEE in Kota. He didn't let his weakness define him, passing his 10th grade with 82.5% and 12th grade with 70% marks. Before coming to Kota, he researched the best coaching options and was inspired by the video of Mridul Agarwal, the JEE Main and Advanced All India Topper of 2021. This inspiration cemented his decision to push his parents to send him to Kota.

Gunjan arrived in Kota in 2023. Things were going smoothly until a routine test on October 5, 2025, revealed a major challenge. The very next day, he experienced severe chest pain. Doctors diagnosed him with pneumothorax, a collapsed left lung, caused by lifting excessively heavy objects. This led to a three-month period of complete bed rest. Yet, he emerged successful.

His mother, Gunja, expressed her profound joy, stating, “I was very happy when my notes worked and my son succeeded.” Naveen Maheshwari, director of a private institute, highlighted that Kota serves as a real motivation not just for students but also for parents.
