Rajasthan Accelerates Green Transit with New Electric Buses
Rajasthan has taken a significant step towards modernizing its urban public transport and embracing greener solutions. The state recently flagged off 47 new electric buses as part of the ambitious PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, marking a crucial move towards sustainable mobility.
These initial 47 buses are being deployed across three major cities. Jaipur will receive 15 of these electric vehicles, Jodhpur also gets 15, and Kota will see 17 new buses join its public fleet. This rollout represents the first phase of a broader plan to enhance eco-friendly commuting options.
A Step Towards Cleaner Urban Mobility
The PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2023, aims to revolutionize public transport across India. Its goal is to deploy 10,000 electric buses in 100 cities nationwide, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of urban travel.
For Rajasthan, the scheme has allocated a total of 500 electric buses. Jaipur is slated to receive 300, while Jodhpur and Kota will each get 100 buses. This phased introduction underscores a commitment to cleaner air and more efficient public services for residents.
Boosting Infrastructure and Environmental Goals
State Transport Minister Brijendra Singh Ola highlighted the environmental benefits during the flag-off ceremony. He emphasized that these zero-emission buses will play a vital role in curbing pollution in the state's urban centers, contributing to a healthier environment for everyone.
Under the cost-sharing model of the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, the central government provides support for operational costs over a decade. The state government, in turn, is responsible for developing the necessary infrastructure, including depots and charging stations, to ensure the smooth functioning of this new electric fleet.
